Lady Bears Split With 4A Schools

MONTICELLO – Monticello pitcher Alaina Lyle threw a twohitter and struck out 13 as the Lady Billies moved to 20-0 overall with an 8-0 victory over the Woodlawn Lady Bears Monday at Monticello. It was the Lady Billies' 15th shutout of the season.After an RBI single gave Monticello a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Lady Billies added five more in the second off a triple, a double, three singles and an error.Monticello's final two runs came off a two-run homerun by Madeline Stanley.Woodlawn's best scoring threat came in the fourth when Jaci Hoyt led off with a single and Kendall Tooke followed with a walk to put two aboard with no one out. However, backto-back strikeouts and a pop up left both stranded.In addition to Hoyt's hit, Lily White had a single with two out in the seventh.Sophomore Karsyn Chastain pitched all six innings for Woodlawn, giving up 13 hits with no walks and one strikeout.The Lady Bears fell to 16-7 overall with the loss.Woodlawn 13, Stuttgart 3WOODLAWN - Woodlawn used an explosive fourth inning to overcome an early three-run deficit at the Lady Bears beat the Class 4A Stuttgart Lady Ricebird, 13-3, last Thursday at Lady Bear Field.Woodlawn starting pitcher, Karsyn Chastain, had a rough start, walking the first three batters she faced to load the bases with no one out. After a fly ball for the first out, Stuttgart had a single to score one run and then added two more on a two-out hit to go up 3-0.Kathryn Dixon singled with one out in the bottom of the first and eventually scored on a passed ball. Macy Harrison later had a two-out single to drive in another run to make 3-2.Dixon had an RBI hit in the second to tie the game, 3-3, before Erin West had a two-out single in the third for the goahead run, 4-3.The Lady Bears took control of the game by plating eight runs in the fourth.
