Lady Bears Blank Gurdon, 11-0, in 8-2A Semifinals

JUNCTION CITY - Jaimie Simmons pitched a three-hitter as the Woodlawn Lady Bears belted out 12 hits and capitalized on five errors in an 11-0 five-inning shutout of the Gurdon Lady Go Devils in the 8-2A District Tournament semifinals last Friday at Junction City.Woodlawn, the no. 2 seed in the tournament, used two-run homeruns from Kendall Tooke and Macy Harrison in the bottom of the first to take earlyu control. Both dingers came with two out.The Lady Bears added three more against the third-seeded Lady Devils in the second when Erin West led off with a single and Madi West reached on a one-out error. Kathryn Dixon brought both home with a double, and Jaci Hoyt followed with another double that scored Dixon to make it 7-0.Woodlawn invoked the 10-run rule with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.Madi West singled to start the frame, and one out later, she scored on a double by Hoyt. Tooke then had a single that moved to Hoyt to third, and Anna Fitzgibbon's ground out scored her to make it 9-0.Gurdon then had an error on Harrison's line drive to left, allowing Tooke to cross home, and Harrison eventually scored on another error to make it 11-0.Simmons had a solid outing inside the circle, scattering three hits while walking just one. She had seven strikeouts over five innings.Of Woodlawn's 12 hits in the game, six went for extra bases. In addition to the homeruns from Tooke and Harrison, Hoyt finished with two doubles while Erin West and Dixon both had one double apiece.Harrison, Tooke, Dixon and Hoyt all finished with two RBIs each.
