 10 YEARS AGO APRIL 2, 2014 Mayor Vernon Dollar informed the Rison City Council Tuesday night that the city may be close to reaching an agreement to sell its first piece of property at the Rison Industrial Park on Hwy. 79 north of Rison. Dollar reported he met with a potential buyer who was interested in purchasing five acres of the 40-acre park site. Dollar said the prospect would like to put in a service and parking area for his trucks that run in this region. The park is located on the east side of the highway across from the pole plant.The finish line is finally in sight for the new music room, art room and computer lab at Woodlawn High School, but Supt. Dudley Hume said it isn't likely that any of those rooms will see much use this school year. All combined, the rooms cover about 5,500 square feet of space at a cost of about $715,000. Woodlawn used state 'partnership program' money to pay for about 67 percent of the project.It has been announced that an arrangement has been made between the City of Rison, the Rison Lions Club and the Rison youth baseball and softball leagues for the city to drop its lease on the fields at Veterans Park and have the Lions Club take over both fields. The two fields were included in a lease agreement that the city signed with Cleveland County, which actually owns the park. Among the reasons for the city getting out of the ball field lease was because of the accounting problems the city has experienced with operations there. The Lions Club will be overseeing all the financial support for the park under the new agreement.Several out-of-town visitors are expected to make their way to Rison this Saturday for the first South Arkansas Homesteading Conference to be held at Pioneer Village.20 YEARS AGO APRIL 7, 2004 The Cleveland County Quorum Court unanimously approved a motion Monday night to accept a bid for removing the asbestos flooring from the old two-story Federal Office Building, adjacent to the courthouse here, paving theā€¦
