10 YEARS AGO APRIL 23, 2014 The Rison School campus was put on lock down for a short period of time last Wednesday afternoon after a man had threatened to bring a gun to the campus over a family matter. Law enforcement officers learned that the suspect was possibly at a residence in north Rison, and when deputies went to the location, they found him there. The 51-year-old Pine Bluff man was arrested and taken into custody at the Cleveland County jail in Rison.The Kingland City Council unanimously approved a motion to put four-way stops along three intersections on Third Street as a means of slowing down traffic to protect children in the area.Cleveland County Judge Gary Spears announced this week that he will be hosting four public meetings around the county to explain the county's proposed 2cent sales tax for solid waste pickup. The proposal will be on the May 20 primary election ballot.Several state and local candidates gathered at the county fairgrounds here last Friday night for a 'Meet and Greet' session hosted by the Cleveland County Democratic Party.20 YEARS AGO APRIL 28, 2004 Cleveland County suffered its first casualty of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as Staff Sgt. Stacey C. Brandon, 35, of Hazen, formerly of Kingsland and a graduate of Kingsland High School, was killed Saturday when his camp at Taji, Iraq, came under mortar fire. Brandon was one of four Arkansas Army National Guard soldiers killed in the attack. All four were members of the 39th Support Battalion, 39th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division from Hazen, which was in its first month of deployment in support efforts in Iraq.Early voting for the primary election is set to begin Monday. The Democratic party ballot includes a three-man race for county judge, along with contests for the state senate, U.S. senate and President.Jennifer Ryburn of Woodlawn is reported to be doing well following a one-car accident on Highway 8 in Dallas County last Tuesday that required her to be air-lifted to a…
