RISON — Extension Homemakers in Cleveland County will celebrate the contributions of their organization to the community during May as Extension Homemakers Month in Arkansas.As a part of the observance, Judge Cummings has officially proclaimed May as Extension Homemakers Month in Cleveland County.Arkansas Extension Homemakers is associated with the Cooperative Extension Service, part of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. Cleveland County EHC clubs are among the 280 clubs throughout the state, with more than 2,700 members.Their mission is to empower individuals and families to improve their lives through continuing education, leadership development, and community service.Cleveland County has seven clubs. Busy Bee Crafters EHC (Kingsland), County Cultivators EHC Project Club (Rison), Friendship EHC (Rison), New Home EHC (Woodlawn), Rye EHC (Rye), Stitchin Sisters EHC Project Club (Rison) and “Y” EHC (Y Community).Through Extension Homemakers Clubs, the Cooperative Extension Service connects trusted research to the adoption of best practices in Family and Consumer Sciences including health, nutrition, money management, and personal development.Arkansas Extension Homemakers began in 1912 as Home Demonstration Clubs.
