Lady Bears Beat Horatio, Acorn at Regional

PARKERS CHAPEL - Backto-back doubles by Kendall Tooke and Anna Fitzgibbon in the top of the third fueled a fourrun third inning as the Woodlawn Lady Bears as they knocked off the 7-2A conference champion Horatio Lady Lions, 6-2, Friday afternoon in the Class 2A South Region Tournament semifinals at Parkers Chapel.Tooke's bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the top of the first scored Kathryn Dixon for an early 1-0 Woodlawn lead.The Lady Bears gave themselves some breathing room in the third when Dixon and Jaci Hoyt led off with singles, and Tooke followed with a one-out double into left to score both runners. Fitzgibbon then had another double to score Tooke, and Macy Harrison drove in Fitzgibbon with a single to give Woodlawn a 5-0 lead.Horatio used a couple of singles and a ground out to score a run in the fourth, and then had a two-out single in the sixth to make close the deficit to 5-2.Lillie Faye McWhorter answered with an solo homerun in the top of the seventh to make it a 6-2 final.Woodlawn had nine hits in the game with Harrison going 3-for-4 for one RBI. Madi West, Dixon, Hoyt, McWhorter, Tooke and Fitzgibbon had one hit apiece with Tooke driving in three runs.Jaimie Simmons pitched the first four innings to get the win. She scattered three hits, did not give up a walk and struck out five.For the second consecutive game, McWhorter went to the circle to finish it out.
