10 YEARS AGO APRIL 16, 2014 The board of the Cleveland County School District unanimously approved giving all classified staff employees a $200 pay raise, plus added another 'step' to the classified pay schedule. Supt. Johnnie Johnson said the classified staff had not received a pay raise since 2010. Classified staff includes all noncertified school employees, such as office personnel, maintenance staff, and others. The board recently voted to give the certified staff (faculty) a $500 pay raise, plus added another step to their pay schedule as well.Bruce Westerman of Hot Springs, a Republican candidate for the Fourth District congressional seat in Arkansas, attended a 'Meet and Greet' session last Friday night at the 'Y' Community Center.'Charlie,' an Englishman and world traveller, who is traveling across the United States by bicycle, stopped at the Rison One Stop for breakfast Thursday morning. Charlie, who wanted to only give his first name, hails from Shrewsbury, England, south of Liverpool. The 51-yearold is no stranger to world travel. He said he has toured 103 nations by bicycle. This most recent trip began in July, 2013, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, before entering the United States through Vermont in August, 2013. Overall, he said he has traveled about 144,000 miles by bicycle.The Woodlawn School Board approved various bids totaling more than $45,000 for campus improvements and equipment during the board's regular monthly meeting Monday night.The board of the Cleveland County School District named Tish Walker-Johnson as the new assistant principal for Rison High School, replacing current assistant principal Davy King. King has been hired to become the new high school principal to succeed Kent Baggett, who is retiring.The Rison Wildcat weightlifting team finished second in the Class 2A Division at the 2014 Arkansas State Weightlifting Championship. There were 10 teams in the Class 2A Division competing for the title. This was the 16th consecutive year…
