Wildcats, Wylie Open With Win Over ‘Bugs
RISON - It wasn’t easy, but the Rison Wildcats managed to dig themselves out of an early hole and then held on down the stretch to get past the Fordyce Redbugs, 8-6, in the 2010 season opener Tuesday evening at Veterans Park in Rison.
“It was just a great job of battling back and not getting down,” Rison Coach Justin Wylie said after picking up his first win as a head coach.
Early on, it looked as though it was going to be tough start for Wylie and his Wildcats as Fordyce used a three-run homerun by Jeremy Saeler to give the ‘Bugs a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
After the lead-off batter grounded out, Rison committed back-to-back errors to put two runners on before Saeler delivered his two-strike long ball off Wildcat starter Hunter Hall.
“I told them that all we had to do was get one run an inning the next three innings to tie this thing,” Wylie said after the game. “But it turned it we didn’t have to do that.”
The Wildcats wasted little time in responded.
