WOODLAWN - Layne Potter, Josey Edwards and MacKenzie King finished with three hits apiece as the Rison Lady Wildcats used a six-run third inning to knock off the Woodlawn Lady Bears, 10-5, last Friday evening in a showdown for the 8-2A regular season championship at Lady Bear Field.Rison and Woodlawn both finished the regular season with 5-1 conference records but the Lady 'Cats will get the no. 1 seed for this week's district tournament at Junction City by their head to-head victory. The Lady Bears, meanwhile, will go into the tournament as the no. 2 seed.Last Friday's clash at Lady Bear Field pitted a couple of teams with plenty of firepower and momentum on their side.Rison came in with a sevengame win streak and having won 11 of its previous 12 games. The Lady 'Cats were averaging 13.8 runs per game over that stretch.Woodlawn, meanwhile, was on a three-game win streak and had won nine of its previous 10 games, including victories over Class 5A Bauxite and Class 4A Stuttgart. The Lady Bears were averaging 11.2 runs during that span.Both teams scored in the first inning with Edwards driving in Breanna Taylor with a single for Rison, and Kathryn Tooke bringing Anna Fitzgibbon home on a ground out for Woodlawn.After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Wildcats broke it open with six runs, all coming with two out.After a ground out to start it, Edwards and Carlie Crain both singled, but Edwards' courtesy runner, Elissa Summar, was caught at second for the second out.Carlese Johnson and Haven Simpson followed with back-toback singles to load the bases, setting up King to deliver a tworun hit into right. Then an error on Rhagen Price's ground ball allowed two more to score, and Riley Hyatt followed with a triple into deep centerfield to add one more. Potter followed with yet another hit to make it 71.Rison added to its lead in fourth when Edwards doubled to start the inning, and an error allowed a run to score.
