Ouachita Scores Late To Tie, Edges Rison in Extra Innings

DONALDSON - Ouachita scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings then had a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth as the Warriors rallied past the Rison Wildcats, 65, Monday afternoon at Donaldson.The 8-2A conference loss dropped Rison to 5-6 in league play and 7-10 overall. The Wildcats are currently fourth in the conference standings and can assure themselves of a berth to the Class 2A South Region Tournament with a victory over Gurdon Friday at Wildcat Field. Rison scored all five of its runs in the top of the first inning.Lawson Kidd led off with single, and after a ground out for the first out, Brock Southerland was hit by a pitch. Canon Cope then smashed a triple into rightfield, driving in two runs.Owen Morrison followed with a single to add another score, and Ayden Laws then had a RBI single to make it 4-0. Laws scored on an error to make it 5-0.Ouachita did not get on the board until the fourth when Colton Brawell homered to start the frame.Southerland, the Wildcats' starting pitcher, carried that 5-1 lead into the sixth when the Warriors added two runs off an RBI single and bases-loaded walk.Rison was just one out away from ending the game in the bottom of the seventh when Southerland had a ground out to start the frame but walked the next batter. That brought Ethan Saeler to the mound, and Saeler got a fielder's choice to retire the lead runner at second for two outs.However, the next batter was hit by a pitch to get the tying run aboard, and then an error allowed both to advance into scoring position. A single by Ouachita's Trey Cox brought both home to tie the game, 5-5.The Wildcats put a threat together in the top of the eighth when Southerland reached on an error with one out and Cope was intentionally walked to put two aboard. However, a fly out and strikeout left both stranded.An error and walk gave the Warriors a couple of baserunners in the bottom of the eighth before Braswell delivered the game-winning…
