Bears Knock Off 'Cats, 13-1

RISON - Peyton Wells and Brayden Jones combined to throw a two-hitter last Friday as the Woodlawn Bears knocked off the Rison Wildcats, 13-1, in six innings at Wildcat Field. This second matchup between the Cleveland County rivals played out differently than the first time when the Bears had to hold off a late Wildcat rally for a 9-8 win at Woodlawn. The game was essentially decided in the second inning when the Bears put up eight runs to take at 9-0 lead. After Tate Hall's sacrifice fly gave Woodlawn a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Aidan Johnson led off the second with a triple before Grant Cowart walked and Triston Bates was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no one out.It looked as though Rison starting pitcher Owen Morrison might be able to get out of the jam when Wells grounded into a double play that put out Johnson and Wells as Coward moved to third and Bates to second. However, Garrett Weatherford followed with a single that scored Cowart and put Bates at third. Hall scored on a passed ball before freshman Parker Arnold drew a walk. Johnson, batting for the second time in the frame, doubled to left to drive in two more runs. Cowart then had a RBI single to make it 9-0 Bears.Wells had a double to lead off the third inning before scoring on Weatherford's ground out to stretch Woodlawn's lead to 100.Rison answered in the bottom of the third when James Jacobs walked to start the inning and then scored on Lawson Kidd's single to make it 10-1.The Bears did not score again until the top of the sixth. Lunsford tripled to start the frame before Arnold drew a walk. Lunsford tagged up to score on Johnson's sacrifice fly to center, and Wells later deliv-ered a two-out single to tack on two more for a 13-1 lead to invoke the 10-run rule.Wells…
