Total Investment On Land, Baseball/Softball Construction Tops $500,000
RISON - The new baseball/softball complex at the Rison High School campus dominated discussion during the Cleveland County School Board’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday night.
Superintendent Johnnie Johnson gave the board a detailed breakdown of how much the district has invested in the site and complex so far, and how much more it might take to finally put it behind them.
Since the district first bought the 23-acre site in 2006, Johnson reported that the Cleveland County School District has spent $509,594.80 as of the end of the 2009-10 fiscal year, which was on June 30, 2010.
The school district bought the land for $6,500 per acre from England Timeberlands of Rison in 2006. The total purchase price of the land, which included the title work and surveying, came to $153,142.
Since then, the majority of the money spent on the site has been for site preparation.
According to the figures presented to the board, the district paid $31,387.50 to have the land cleared and the stumps removed, and another $134,154 to level the site making it suitable for construction.
