Bears Escape Redbugs, 6-4; Edmonds No-Hits Spring Hill

FORDYCE - Garrett Weatherford and Parker Arnold had RBI singles in the top of the ninth as the Woodlawn Bears escaped Fordyce with a 6-4 win over the Redbugs Tuesday evening at Fordyce.It was Woodlawn's 12th consecutive victory as the Bears remain perfect in 8-2A conference play at 9-0 and are 23-1 overall.Fordyce went up 1-0 in the bottom of the third off back-toback singles and an error with two out.Woodlawn answered with three runs in the top of the fourth. The Bears used walks to Arnold, Aidan Johnson and Mason Edmonds to load the bases with two out. Tyler French, running for Arnold, scored on a passed ball before Peyton Wells had a two-run double into right.That lead didn't last long, however, as the Redbugs used an RBI single and ground out to tie it up, 3-3, in the bottom of the third.The Bears regained the lead in the fifth, 4-3, when Gage Boykin scored on an error.Fordyce drew even in the bottom of the sixth when the 'Bugs scored on a one-out ground out.Woodlawn did not have another baserunner until the top of the ninth while Fordyce had singles in the seventh and eighth innings but could never capitalized.After a strikeout to start the top of the ninth, Wells singled and then stole second. An error on Weatherford's follow-up single allowed Wells to score and Weatherford to go to second.After an intentional walk to Brayden Jones, a strikeout gave the Bears their second out. Dillon Lunsford then drew a walk to load the bases, and Arnold then singled into left to drive in Weatherford.Jones, who came on in relief with two out in the seventh, had a ground out and strikeout to start the bottom of the ninth before the Redbugs got a walk. Jones struck out the next batter to seal the victory.Woodlawn managed just five hits against Fordyce while getting eight walks and striking out 13 times in the extra-inning game. Wells had a double and a single with two RBIs for the Bears. Weatherford, Dillon Lunsford and Arnold had the other three hits.Woodlawn used three…
